My World of Dogs
Welcome!
Here is where I will share with you my experiences with my dogs. The good, the bad, the silly, the heartbreaking, and everything in-between. These are my own experiences.
I am new to the world of dog sports. I started participating about a year ago. I am not, however, new to dogs. I was raised by a mother who groomed pets for a living. As a little girl, I spent nap time in kennels and my days frightening my father with zero fear of dogs. Dogs have always had a special place in my heart. Honestly, to me, a home isn’t full without a pet.
I have always had dogs and cats at home. I spent my early adult life living for my dog. I spent a year finding a living situation where I could have him with me. As he got to his later years I spent more than six months finding him the perfect mate to help him enjoy his later years. She was the perfect match for him. After he was gone, I was so very sad. But we took the time to morn with our girl.
I had always had rescues. There is nothing like the love of a rescue. They know and have experienced some of the terrible things that exist in this world. Therefore, they appreciate and love so differently. But with a rescue comes the “baggage”. By no means is this a terrible thing. It could mean your rescue comes with some training or “street smarts”. It could also mean they come with some things that need to be worked through or a combination of the two.
For our next dog, I wanted a puppy and a purebred. I wanted to know what it was like to know what to expect from a purebred dog and have a puppy that was not found in a terrible situation. However, I was unclear on the puppy process and did not do proper research! My mom had always suggested a german shorthaired pointer (GSP) was the dog that matched my personality. My previous 2 dogs had been GSP mixes and that is what I wanted.
Within 24 hours of deciding what I wanted and my husband agreeing I found a puppy on Craig’s list and adopted her. I tell you I got lucky! I found a GREAT dog. She is amazing. However, I knew nothing about the breeder. I just happened to luck out. This is NOT an everyday experience. This did, however, start me down the path of GSPs. I now have 3 purebred GSPs. 2 from the most engaged and amazing breeder! She is the reason I have become involved in dog sports!
